Shigeo Kageyama, nicknamed "Mob", is a 14-year-old boy attending his second year at Salt Middle School. Hitori Bocchi, a girl with extreme social anxiety, has had only one friend throughout elementary school. While she is shy and gets nervous in front of strangers, she is more fond to animals, particularly dogs. They are almost universally watched by older teens and young adults.
